During its recent session in Doha, Qatar’s Shura Council conducted a thorough evaluation of the National Health Strategy 2024-2030. Members underscored the importance of enhancing preventive healthcare, refining patient services, and expediting digital innovations throughout the health sector.
The session was led by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, attended by HE Minister of Public Health Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud, alongside prominent officials from the ministry. Key objectives of the strategy and the government’s action plans were outlined during the gathering.
At the outset, the council condemned a recent drone attack targeting a commercial vessel within Qatar’s territorial waters. Members characterized this incident as a serious threat to both maritime safety and regional stability.
The council expressed concern that assaults on shipping routes could adversely affect global trade and supply chains. There was a strong call for adherence to international law and the right to free navigation.
HE Al Ghanim acknowledged Qatar’s leadership for its unwavering commitment to enhancing the healthcare sector guided by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. He remarked that the National Health Strategy aligns with Qatar’s broader vision of elevating quality of life and creating a robust healthcare framework.
Minister Al Mahmoud noted that the strategy centers around three fundamental priorities: promoting public health, improving patient experiences, and bolstering the resilience and efficiency of the healthcare system.
He emphasized the government's commitment to curbing non-communicable diseases like obesity and diabetes through awareness initiatives, preventive healthcare, and early screening efforts.
The minister also highlighted advancements in developing the national health insurance system, optimizing financial strategies for healthcare, and enhancing collaboration between public and private sectors.
Plans are also underway to broaden mental health services, augment emergency response capabilities, and accelerate digital transformation through integrated health data systems and AI applications in healthcare.
Shura Council members reiterated the urgent need to minimize delays in medical appointments, enhance access to health services, and fortify primary and preventive healthcare across the nation.
There was a collective call for amplifying investments in medical research and innovation, along with the promotion of mental health awareness programs tailored for youth.
Concluding the session, the council referred a proposed law on petrol station regulations to the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee for detailed examination.
Finally, HE Al Ghanim shared insights on a Shura Council delegation's involvement in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean summit held in Montenegro, where discussions centered on parliamentary diplomacy, resilience in democracy, and fostering international collaboration.
During this summit, HE Al Ghanim underlined the significance of enhancing dialogue and cooperation among parliaments to effectively tackle regional and global issues.
