Oslo Blast Police Detonate Second Explosive Suspect Arrested

Post by :

Norwegian police reported a serious incident in central Oslo involving an explosion on a street near a busy area of the city. The authorities said they are investigating the blast and, after the initial explosion, discovered a second device at the same location. Police safely carried out a controlled detonation of this second device to prevent any harm to the public.

The area where the explosion occurred is close to a university campus, and also only about 500 meters away from the royal palace and the Israeli embassy, making the situation especially sensitive. Fortunately, police confirmed that no one was injured during the incident.

In a rare and urgent step to ensure public safety, Norwegian authorities sent an emergency alert directly to mobile phones of residents in Oslo. The message warned them about the blast and advised them to stay cautious in the area.

Police identified the second device as a “military-style” hand grenade, according to the officer leading the investigation, Brian Skotnes. He also said that a suspect had been arrested and is currently being questioned. Police are working intensively to gather more information and determine if there are other people involved.

While the initial hypothesis suggests that the incident could involve criminals targeting other criminals, authorities have not ruled out any possibilities. They emphasized that the area is now safe, but investigations are ongoing to understand the full circumstances of the explosion.

Media reports indicate that a 13-year-old has been taken into custody in connection with the incident, although police have not confirmed the age of the suspect officially. This unusual arrest adds another layer of complexity to the investigation, given the young age of the person involved.

The Oslo blast comes just a day after reports of unusual drone activity near airports in Oslo and nearby Copenhagen, raising concerns about heightened security threats in the region. Authorities are likely to investigate whether there is any connection between these recent events and the explosion in central Oslo.

Police continue to urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Residents are being reminded to remain alert but calm, and normal city operations in central Oslo are resuming following the controlled detonation.

This incident has caught the attention of both the local community and international observers because of the location’s significance and the unusual nature of the devices used. The authorities are treating the situation with high priority and aim to prevent any similar incidents in the future.
