The National Library and Archives (NLA) has launched its new platform, “Al Majlis,” aimed at celebrating the UAE's rich history and culture during major events and national festivities. This interactive initiative serves as a space for knowledge sharing and highlights the NLA's dedication to preserving the country's heritage, securing its national memorials, and advancing historical documentation through innovative, forward-thinking approaches.
In line with its mission to amplify cultural engagement, the NLA seeks to enhance its influence by providing specialized venues that allow the public and organizations to delve into its extensive archival and historical research resources. “Al Majlis” underscores the institution's pivotal role in the promotion of knowledge and the safeguarding of Emirati cultural heritage.
The platform was inaugurated in collaboration with the Emirates International Endurance Village, coinciding with the Union Day Cup events. The first session featured a lecture titled “Purebred Arabian Horses in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi,” delivered by the esteemed researcher Mohammed Ali Al Matrooshi. Recognized for his expertise in equine lineage, Al Matrooshi shared valuable insights into the heritage of Arabian horses in Abu Dhabi, referencing preserved manuscripts that chronicle the long-standing admiration for horses in the Arab world and the careful documentation of their ancestry.
The lecture illustrated the prominent role of Arabian horses in the fabric of UAE society, showcasing their importance not just as symbols of strength and valor but as essential elements of Emirati identity. It emphasized their historical influence on both social and economic spheres, cherished through generations.
Through “Al Majlis,” the NLA is committed to creating innovative platforms that promote collaboration with national bodies and support knowledge-driven endeavors focused on heritage preservation and technological advancement. This approach aligns with the UAE’s vision for cultural leadership and sustainable progress.
The initiative seeks to enhance national identity and societal understanding of the importance of safeguarding the UAE’s collective memory, offering specialized programs and vibrant content that engage both present and future generations, fostering a deeper connection to the country’s cultural legacy.
Ultimately, the National Library and Archives envisions “Al Majlis” as a guiding light for enhancing knowledge and heritage appreciation, forming strategic alliances, and aligning with the UAE’s aspirations for global excellence and leadership.
