Bangladesh Mob Violence Claims Life of Hindu Man Amid Blasphemy Allegations

Post by : Mara Rahim

A distressing event unfolded in Bangladesh on Thursday when a Hindu man was fatally attacked by a mob due to suspected blasphemy remarks. The occurrence took place in the Bhaluka region of Mymensingh district, as confirmed by local police representatives.

The deceased has been identified as Dipu Chandra Das, an employee at a nearby garment factory, residing as a tenant in the Dubalia Para area. Authorities reported that the mob confronted him around 9 pm, accusing him of making derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad. However, witnesses interviewed by the police have been unable to specify when or how the purported statements were made.

According to police accounts, the mob assaulted Das to death, subsequently tying his body to a tree before setting it ablaze. This incident disrupted traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for several hours as a sizable crowd gathered at the site.

Social media saw the emergence of a video that allegedly captured the incident, showing bystanders filming the scene with their mobile devices. Authorities have yet to verify the video's authenticity. Police arrived swiftly at the location following reports of the deadly attack and have been attempting to manage the escalating situation.

The body was transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. As of now, no formal charges have been lodged, with police focusing on locating the victim's family. Officials announced that appropriate legal actions will be initiated once the case is registered.
