More than 100 vehicles stranded after massive snowstorm crash in Michigan

Post by : Saif Nasser

Michigan faced a major winter disaster on Monday when more than 100 vehicles collided or slid off Interstate 196 due to a severe snowstorm. The crash occurred southwest of Grand Rapids, leaving motorists stranded and causing widespread chaos on the snow-covered roads.

The Michigan State Police quickly closed both directions of the highway to manage the situation and remove all vehicles. Among the wrecked vehicles were over 30 trailer trucks. Officials reported numerous injuries, but no deaths have been confirmed so far. Emergency crews continue to work in challenging conditions to clear the road.

Videos and photos shared on social media showed trucks and cars piled up across the icy highway. Drivers described terrifying moments as visibility was extremely low, and snow made it nearly impossible to see vehicles ahead. Pedro Mata Jr., a motorist caught in the storm, said he could barely see and pulled his truck safely into the median to avoid being hit.

The snowstorm has affected a wider region, with the US National Weather Service issuing warnings for extremely cold temperatures and potential winter storms across multiple states. Northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York are expected to face heavy snow and freezing conditions, while north-central Florida and southeast Georgia may also experience dangerously low temperatures overnight.

Authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously and avoid unnecessary travel, warning that the roads remain treacherous. The Michigan crash highlights the severe impact of winter weather on travel safety and the urgent need for preparedness during extreme conditions.
