Kuwait and the UAE are initiating a significant advancement in regional space collaboration. H.H. Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister of Kuwait, recently hosted Salem Humaid AlMarri, the Director General of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), alongside his delegation at Bayan Palace. The meeting centered on promoting joint efforts in space science, technology, and research projects.
During their discussions, both parties focused on enhancing knowledge sharing between the UAE's MBRSC and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), emphasizing applied space research, satellite innovation, and remote sensing. Future collaborations were explored to stimulate innovation, strengthen capacity building, and foster scientific advancement regionally.
Key officials, including Abdulaziz Al-Dakhil from the Prime Minister’s Diwan and Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority, were present during the meeting, which also included Dr. Ameenah Farhan from KFAS and UAE Ambassador H.E. Dr. Matar Hamed AlNeyadi.
A pivotal outcome of the meeting was the signing of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MBRSC and KFAS. This agreement outlines a detailed framework for cooperative efforts in space sciences, advanced research, and local capacity enhancement, reflecting the UAE’s dedication to elevating the role of Arab nations in space innovation and scientific development.
The MoU lays the groundwork for collaboration in critical domains like space exploration, satellite technologies, applied research, and remote sensing. It also aims at establishing specialized training programs for researchers and students, promoting joint scientific endeavors to aid sustainable development and enhance regional competitiveness in the space sector.
Beyond this formal agreement, the partnership is designed to foster an Arab space ecosystem built on knowledge exchange and long-term collaboration in space science and technology. For Kuwait, this MoU fortifies its commitment to developing a strong scientific and research foundation to lead regional space endeavors.
KFAS has pointed out that this collaboration aligns with the initiative to launch the Kuwait National Centre for Space Research. With backing from Amiri authorities and Kuwait University, the Centre will streamline space activities, enhance research capabilities, and prepare Kuwaiti youth for careers in satellite science and space exploration.
Through this partnership, Kuwait and the UAE aim to solidify their positions in the global space science arena, integrating education, research, and innovation to transform the Gulf into a hub of scientific excellence.
