Return of the Hatta Farming Festival Enhances UAE's Agricultural Landscape

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

The Dubai Municipality proudly announces the third edition of the Hatta Farming Festival, part of the ‘Dubai Farms’ initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Located at Hatta Leem Lake, the festival will continue until 1 February, uniting Emirati farmers, estate managers, and agricultural enterprises.

As part of the ‘Hatta Winter’ campaign by Brand Dubai, this event reinforces the #DubaiDestinations drive, showcasing Hatta’s strengths in tourism, heritage, and agriculture. The festival plays a pivotal role in promoting Hatta as a vital agri-tourism and eco-tourism hub in the UAE.

This year marks an expansion in participation, with specialized farms and businesses presenting innovative agricultural solutions and products. For the first time, both government and private sectors will engage in supporting People of Determination, offering workshops, product showcases, and activities. These initiatives align with Dubai’s commitment to empower young farmers and enhance the agricultural sector.

Additionally, Dubai Municipality has rolled out support packages worth AED 3.7 million for Hatta farmers. These include the distribution of fertilizers and seeds, agricultural consulting services, pest control assistance, and the rollout of three innovative tourism and production projects utilizing modern agricultural tech.

Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized that the festival serves as a vital platform for farmers and local producers to access markets, training, and advisory resources. He noted that this initiative promotes food security, sustainable agriculture, rural development, and community welfare.

Open to the public at no cost, the festival features platforms for selling local agricultural goods, livestock contests, training activities, consultancy options, and prizes for both farmers and attendees. Hatta residents can participate without any fees, as permit costs for temporary food activities are waived throughout the event.

The Hatta Farming Festival unites farmers, consumers, and supporting entities to advocate for sustainable agriculture and knowledge sharing. It also fosters community involvement through workshops and competitions, promoting a healthy lifestyle in Hatta.

Dubai Municipality indicates that this festival embodies its vision to render Dubai more sustainable and livable while empowering farmers, conserving biodiversity, fostering a green economy, and enhancing the quality of life in Hatta.
