The nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards were unveiled by the Recording Academy on Friday, showcasing a vibrant and competitive lineup. Kendrick Lamar takes the lead with nine nominations, mirroring his count from the previous year. Following closely behind is Lady Gaga, who garnered seven nominations, placing both artists prominently in the spotlight for this year’s awards.
Both Lamar’s GNX and Gaga’s MAYHEM are contenders in the sought-after Album of the Year category. Despite being perennial nominees, neither has clinched this award, raising the stakes for the upcoming event. The Grammy ceremony is set for February 1 in Los Angeles.
Experts in the industry lend their support to Lamar, whose nominations span various categories including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. This widespread acknowledgment signals strong backing from the Recording Academy's voting members. As noted by Billboard Awards editor Paul Grein, Lamar could achieve the milestone of being the first solo male rap artist to win Album of the Year—an important moment in Grammy history. Yet, Grein remarks that Lady Gaga remains a fierce competitor and is “always in the conversation” for top awards.
Other notables this year include Sabrina Carpenter and Bad Bunny, both fetching six nominations. Carpenter’s album, Man’s Best Friend, has significantly raised her profile within mainstream pop, while Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny breaks into key Grammy categories, including Album, Record, and Song of the Year. Additionally, he is slated to headline the Super Bowl halftime performance next year, amplifying his momentum.
Interestingly, Taylor Swift, who holds the record for the most Album of the Year wins at four, is missing from this year’s nominations. Her recent work, The Life of a Showgirl, did not meet the eligibility criteria for this Grammy season and will be eligible in the next cycle.
This year’s voting will include about 15,000 Recording Academy members. The nominees reflect a diverse array of genres, underscoring the music industry's ongoing evolution.
Fans and industry observers are eagerly anticipating the Grammy Awards ceremony, where the year’s musical accomplishments will be celebrated.
