Late Tuesday, Iran executed a fresh round of missile and drone assaults aimed at Kuwait and Bahrain, heightening security worries in the Gulf.
Kuwait's state news outlet KUNA reported that local authorities advised residents to adhere to safety guidelines and stay away from any debris or unidentified objects resulting from the attacks.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that two Iranian missiles directed at Kuwait either fell short or disintegrated mid-flight. They also noted that other ballistic missiles intended for nearby locations failed to hit their marks while three aimed at Bahrain were successfully intercepted.
While neither Kuwait nor Bahrain has officially corroborated CENTCOM's report, authorities in Bahrain did announce that warning sirens were activated as a precautionary measure.
CENTCOM additionally reported that US forces intercepted drones from Iran intended for civilian vessels operating in the regional waters as well as American military personnel stationed in Kuwait. In retaliation to Iranian threats, the US military struck targets on Iran's Qeshm Island, strategically located near the Strait of Hormuz.
Simultaneously, Iranian media stated that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched strikes against the US Fifth Fleet's command in Bahrain. They asserted that their attacks also targeted an airbase and choppers in another regional nation, framing these as reactions to a recent US strike on a communications facility in southern Qeshm.
Despite all Iranian assaults reported being unsuccessful according to CENTCOM, they emphasized that US forces are poised to respond to what they classify as "unwarranted Iranian aggression."
Since the onset of the conflict in late February, Iran has consistently targeted locations throughout the Gulf where US military installations are found. The recent attacks follow prior Iranian actions aimed at Kuwait on May 28 and June 1.
Although an initial tentative agreement between Iran and the United States was announced last week to cease hostilities, this accord remains unfinalized.
Reports indicate that direct communications between Tehran and Washington have been scarce recently. Nevertheless, US President Donald Trump remarked that dialogues between both nations are ongoing.
In a recent social media update, Trump noted that discussions have been consistently taking place in recent days and continue despite the amplified military tensions.
