India Expresses Concern Over Recent Attacks on Hindu Community in Bangladesh

Post by : Mina Rahman

India has voiced its strong disapproval regarding the recent murder of a Hindu individual in Bangladesh, describing the continuous violence against minority communities as profoundly troubling. New Delhi emphasized that this rising turmoil raises significant questions about public safety and must be addressed.

The Ministry of External Affairs is actively monitoring the situation in Bangladesh, taking serious note of the attacks targeting Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists. India strongly condemned these acts and insisted that those accountable must be swiftly brought to justice.

Officials underscored that a myriad of violent incidents involving minorities has surfaced in recent months, including homicides, arson, and incidents linked to land disputes. India insists that these occurrences should not be mischaracterized as mere isolated incidents or political tensions.

The recent murder occurred in Rajbari district, approximately 145 kilometers from Dhaka. The deceased, identified as Amrit Mondal, was reportedly beaten to death by locals amidst allegations of extortion. According to police reports, Mondal and his companions were confronted by residents after allegedly soliciting money from a household. He sustained severe injuries during the assault and later succumbed in the hospital.

Law enforcement stated that one individual has been apprehended related to this incident, while others have evaded capture. Weapons were seized, and investigators revealed that Mondal had several criminal cases against him. His remains have been sent for a post-mortem as inquiries progress.

This event follows another shocking incident in Mymensingh, where a young Hindu worker, Dipu Das, was killed amid accusations of blasphemy. Police reported that he was lynched by a mob, hung from a tree, and his body was later burned next to a congested highway, leading to significant traffic disruptions.

The murder ignited widespread condemnation after graphic videos of the event emerged online. The interim government in Bangladesh has denounced the violence, affirming their position against vigilante justice and unlawful actions. Authorities promise to pursue strict legal consequences for all involved in both incidents.

India reasserted its expectation that Bangladesh will safeguard minority communities and uphold justice via appropriate legal mechanisms.
