Hat Yai Hospital Enhances Southern Healthcare Capabilities

Hat Yai Hospital Enhances Southern Healthcare Capabilities

Post by : Shakul

The Ministry of Public Health in Thailand has reported significant advancements in the recovery and expansion of Hat Yai Hospital, which experienced extensive flood damage during the catastrophic floods of 2025. Medical services have resumed in full much sooner than anticipated, with plans underway to elevate the facility into a central healthcare hub for Southern Thailand.

Minister of Public Health Pattana Promphat recently visited Hat Yai Hospital in Songkhla Province to assess restoration initiatives and evaluate emergency preparedness systems against potential future flooding. The ministry indicated that restoration efforts are progressing approximately 20 percent faster than expected due to swift reconstruction and government backing.

A key development in the hospital's recovery is a royal grant of 100 million baht, which has been instrumental in revamping crucial hospital infrastructure. The funding has facilitated renovations in the emergency and accident department, reinforced structural systems, and enhanced backup electricity provisions, alongside upgrades to specialized treatment areas such as the bone marrow transplant center and pediatric oncology wards. Completion of these renovations is anticipated by September 2026.

To fortify the hospital's defenses against future floods, major infrastructure enhancements are ongoing. More than 80 percent of structural restorations have been finalized, with the Provincial Electricity Authority establishing a dedicated emergency power line and installing a 1,200 KVA generator to provide energy support to various service buildings during emergencies.

Further improvements include the enhancement of water supply and medical support systems, with ten new water pump buildings constructed and a reverse osmosis system installed that can produce 2,000 liters of clean drinking water per hour. Liquid oxygen storage systems have been modernized, and backup medical gas systems have been strategically relocated to safer positions. Modernized communication networks and emergency radio systems have also been implemented to guarantee uninterrupted operations during crises.

Parallel to these enhancements, Hat Yai Hospital is expanding its medical services through the establishment of seven specialized centers focusing on excellence in various fields such as cancer treatment, cardiovascular care, stroke interventions, neonatology, emergency services, laparoscopic surgeries, and organ transplants. The hospital is incorporating advanced smart technologies and automated medical systems that meet international standards, enhancing accuracy and efficiency in healthcare delivery.

As part of a comprehensive expansion strategy, the government is advancing the "Hat Yai Hospital 2" project on a 130-rai location in Ban Phru Subdistrict. Officials believe this new facility will address the increasing healthcare needs in Southern Thailand while facilitating medical research, the development of advanced treatments, and aligning with Thailand's broader health economic goals. The expansion aims to position Hat Yai as a leading regional medical center in the near future.
