Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand visited those injured in the tragic train-bus accident in Bangkok, promising complete support and compensation for all affected families.
Accompanied by Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angkasakulkiat, the Prime Minister toured Camillian Hospital on May 17, 2026, where he spoke with injured individuals who were receiving care after the unfortunate incident at the Makkasan railway crossing on Asoke-Din Daeng Road.
Officials offered fruit baskets while discussing the medical conditions of patients with their families, labeling the event a calamity that should never have taken place.
Instructing relevant agencies to quickly investigate the tragedy, Prime Minister Anutin stressed that their findings would promote the implementation of heightened safety measures to prevent future incidents at railway crossings.
The government assured that the State Railway of Thailand and the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority would collaboratively deliver compensation and medical care for the victims and families of those who perished in the disaster.
Deputy Minister Siripong conveyed that Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn extended condolences to the families and called for enhanced safety protocols at critical railway crossings nationwide.
Siripong was also tasked with visiting victims at Rajavithi Hospital, Phramongkutklao Hospital, and Ramathibodi Hospital to oversee their well-being and convey governmental support.
Latest reports indicate that the accident unfortunately resulted in 8 fatalities and 30 injuries, with victims currently receiving treatment in several Bangkok hospitals. Some injured individuals have since recovered and been released.
The investigation into the cause of the train-bus collision is currently underway, and authorities will provide updates as new information becomes available.
