Abu Dhabi recently hosted the 8th International Symposium on the System of Radiological Protection, attracting over 600 experts, researchers, and policymakers from 55 countries. The three-day event provided a platform for in-depth discussions on the latest developments in radiation safety and protection.
Throughout the symposium, more than 120 presentations highlighted a range of topics, from medical applications of radiological protection to cutting-edge uses of artificial intelligence. Environmental protection and ecosystem monitoring, occupational and public exposure, and astronaut safety in space exploration were also central themes.
The symposium featured an exhibition of 175 research papers, offering insights into emerging methodologies and innovative technologies in radiation protection. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the latest scientific findings and discuss global best practices.
The event also recognized rising talent in the field through the Cousins Award for Young Scientists and Professionals, celebrating contributions to improving radiation safety standards worldwide.
The symposium underscored the UAE’s ongoing commitment to fostering international collaboration and scientific excellence in radiation protection, setting the stage for future updates to global safety standards and recommendations.
