On Sunday, Andhra Pradesh witnessed two devastating road accidents that resulted in the loss of six lives and injuries to sixteen individuals. These incidents occurred on busy highways, involving a Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV), a private bus, and several trucks, leading to significant emergency responses from local authorities.
Srikakulam Incident: Four Pilgrims Killed in MUV Crash
The first accident happened early on Sunday in the Srikakulam district near Yetturallapadu village, along the national highway. An MUV, transporting pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh, rear-ended a parked truck. The pilgrims were en route to the renowned Srisailam temple following a visit to Puri in Odisha.
Initial police investigations indicate that the MUV driver may have dozed off, leading to the tragic collision. The impact killed four pilgrims instantly. The deceased were identified as Santoshi Bai (62), Vijay Singh Tomar (65), Singh Pawar (60), and Kusal Singh (62).
Emergency responders from the highway quickly arrived to assist, transporting the injured, who numbered sixteen, to the local government hospital in Narsannapet. Local authorities are continuing their inquiry into the precise circumstances and causes of the crash.
Nandyal Incident: Bus Hits Two Trucks, Resulting in Two Deaths
On the same day, another severe accident occurred in Nandyal district near Perayapalem village in Allagadda mandal. A private bus en route from Hyderabad to Puducherry collided with two trucks. The bus first struck a truck and was then hit by a second truck shortly after.
The collision was catastrophic, leading to the immediate deaths of two rear-seat passengers. Additionally, ten other passengers suffered injuries, with four in serious condition. Emergency services reacted swiftly to the scene, assisting those injured and maintaining order.
Local law enforcement has started an investigation into the incident. Officials are scrutinizing driver statements, vehicle conditions, and road safety protocols to ascertain the factors contributing to the crash.
Calls for Enhanced Safety Measures
These incidents have reignited concerns regarding road safety and the attentiveness of drivers on Andhra Pradesh's highways. Issues like fatigue and possible human error are under scrutiny, especially concerning the MUV crash in Srikakulam. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of taking necessary precautions, such as scheduled breaks during long travels.
The Andhra Pradesh police, together with highway patrol units, are undertaking comprehensive investigations into both incidents to establish the complete sequence of events and ensure accountability. Meanwhile, rescue and medical personnel continue to care for the injured as local officials provide support to the victims' families.
