Engineer Tragedy: Car Plunges into Water Pit in Greater Noida

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Greater Noida: A 27-year-old software engineer named Yuvraj Mehta met a tragic fate when his vehicle fell into a deep water-filled pit in Greater Noida over the weekend.

Mehta, employed in Gurugram, was en route to Tata Eureka Park in Noida Sector 150 when he lost control of his Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara due to heavy fog. The car jumped over a drain and landed in a pit approximately 50 feet deep, which was filled with rainwater. Authorities noted that the pit was neither marked with barricades nor equipped with reflective warnings.

Despite successfully climbing atop his car and reaching out to his father for assistance, Mehta was unable to be rescued. He reportedly told his father, “Papa, I am stuck, the car has fallen into the drain.”

Rescue teams from the police, fire department, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the scene, but the dense fog hampered their efforts. They deployed ropes, cranes, and ladders, but these measures fell short of being effective.

Mehta remained stranded on top of his vehicle for around 90 minutes before it ultimately sank. His body was subsequently recovered using a boat.

Authorities are probing the incident and have issued warnings regarding unmarked pits and the dangers posed by limited visibility during foggy conditions.
