The Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) has forged a pivotal cooperation agreement with the Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi (DGE) to enhance the skills of UAE Nationals in the burgeoning civil nuclear energy sector.
This agreement, facilitated by DGE’s Mawaheb Talent Hub, seeks to equip Emirati individuals with the specialized technical skills essential for advancing the UAE’s clean energy goals.
The signing ceremony included His Excellency Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Group CEO of ENEC, alongside Her Excellency Mariam Al Musharrakh, Director General of GovTalent at DGE.
Official signatories included His Excellency Dr Abdulla AlShimmari, Executive Director of the National Workforce Enablement Sector at DGE, and Ahmed Alshamsi, Chief Human Capital Officer of ENEC.
Under this five-year initiative, at least 100 UAE Nationals with various educational backgrounds, including high school diplomas and postgraduate degrees, will be offered training and career opportunities in nuclear energy.
Mawaheb Talent Hub will assist ENEC by supplying qualified candidates and facilitating advanced training workshops, technical evaluations, and interviews.
ENEC will fully sponsor the training programs and provide financial assistance during the training period. Successful candidates will join ENEC and its affiliates, contributing to operations at the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.
Commenting on this partnership, Mohamed Al Hammadi noted ENEC's long-standing commitment to developing a capable Emirati workforce to lead the nuclear energy sector.
He emphasized that this initiative will fortify the talent pipeline and prepare a new generation equipped to support the UAE's carbon-free energy ambitions and sustainable economic development.
His Excellency Ibrahim Nassir, Undersecretary of DGE, mentioned that this agreement underscores a mutual dedication to cultivating Emirati talent for one of the UAE’s vital strategic sectors.
He remarked that collaborations like this are essential for turning the UAE’s long-term national vision into reality by producing skilled professionals for the clean energy arena.
ENEC pointed out that over 2,000 Emirati professionals have already been instrumental in the development and management of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant through various talent development initiatives.
Currently, the four units of the Barakah Plant generate 40 terawatt-hours of clean electricity annually, meeting approximately 25 percent of the UAE's electricity requirements and avoiding millions of tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
Through this new collaboration, ENEC and DGE aspire to bolster the UAE's stature as a global frontrunner in clean energy and the development of a skilled nuclear workforce.
