Empowering Education in Thailand: Delegation of Key Responsibilities

Empowering Education in Thailand: Delegation of Key Responsibilities

Post by : Shakul

In a significant move to enhance the efficiency of Thailand's educational framework, the Ministry of Education has implemented an administrative delegation aimed at strengthening its operational capabilities. This initiative is part of a wider strategy to foster effective coordination and expedite policy implementation across diverse educational sectors.

Minister of Education Prasert Chantharawongthong has enacted an order that delegates critical responsibilities to Deputy Minister Akranan Kankittinant. This change aims to empower the Deputy Minister to represent the Minister in a plethora of administrative and operational domains, ensuring a more responsive governance structure within the ministry.

The newly empowered Deputy Minister will be able to issue directives and grant approvals, managing various essential departments including the Department of Learning Promotion, the Institute for the Promotion of Science and Technology, Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, National Institute of Educational Testing, the National Scout Office, as well as the Office of National Education Standards and Quality Assessment. This delegation aims to enhance the swiftness and effectiveness of decision-making processes, particularly in fields linked to lifelong learning and technological advancement.

Furthermore, this development showcases the government’s heightened commitment to modernizing education, particularly through the promotion of science, technology, and extracurricular activities like scouting. By centralizing authority under the Deputy Minister, the ministry aspires to create a unified and efficient approach to policy implementation and agency collaboration.

Nevertheless, the directive specifies limitations on delegated powers. All decisions requiring royal sanction, high-level policy changes, legal regulations, and those needing Cabinet or Prime Minister review will remain under the jurisdiction of the Education Minister. This stipulation guarantees ongoing oversight of significant decisions by the highest governmental authority.

Additionally, the Deputy Minister must provide updates to the Minister upon completing assigned tasks, thus ensuring a system of checks and balances that upholds both operational agility and administrative integrity. This established reporting chain is designed to enhance ministerial efficiency while preserving governance standards.

With the order effective from April 16, 2026, it anticipates improved collaboration among educational agencies and superior delivery of educational services. This initiative underscores the Thai government’s unwavering dedication to fortifying its educational framework in response to contemporary national and global challenges.
