The Emirates Scholar Centre for Research and Studies has announced a historic partnership with the European Medical Association (EMA). This makes Emirates Scholar the first institution from the UAE and the Arab world to officially join EMA as an institutional partner. This is a significant achievement for the UAE, showing the country’s commitment to global medical research and innovation.
This partnership comes after one year of consistent scientific efforts by the Emirates Scholar Centre. During this time, the Centre focused on building strong cooperation with European institutions while following the highest international standards in research. The recognition also highlights the Centre’s outstanding contributions in medical research both in the UAE and internationally.
Through this collaboration, more than 250,000 EMA members, including doctors, healthcare practitioners, and researchers, will now have access to new opportunities. These include scientific publishing, participating in joint research projects, and attending major international medical conferences. This collaboration will also help the UAE strengthen its global role in scientific and medical research.
Dr. Fawaz Habbal, Director-General and Member of the Board of Trustees at Emirates Scholar, said, “Becoming a member of the European Medical Association reflects our commitment to advance medical research not only in the region but worldwide. Over the next three years, we plan to start more than 20 joint research projects, focusing on modern medicine, rehabilitation, and mental health. This aligns perfectly with the UAE leadership’s vision of investing in knowledge and encouraging global cooperation.”
To make the partnership more effective, a comprehensive plan has been created. This includes holding specialized events and knowledge-sharing activities. One major upcoming event is the 2nd European Arab Medical Congress (EAMC 2025). This congress is being organized jointly by Emirates Scholar and the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, in partnership with EMA and the Emirates Medical Association. The Abu Dhabi Convention and Exhibition Bureau is supporting the event. The congress will focus on “Practical Approaches in Rehabilitation Medicine and Psychology” and will take place from October 9th to 11th, 2025, at the Abu Dhabi Energy Centre.
Professor Vincenzo Costigliola, President of the European Medical Association, welcomed the new partnership, saying: “This is an important moment for medical and research collaboration between Europe, the UAE, and the Arab region. Together, we will build a strong platform to share knowledge and develop innovative solutions to global health challenges.”
The partnership also plans several next steps:
This partnership is expected to enhance scientific collaboration between the UAE and Europe significantly. It will provide Emirati researchers and healthcare professionals with global exposure, opportunities for publishing their work internationally, and chances to participate in cutting-edge medical research.
Overall, this strategic move reflects the UAE’s commitment to investing in knowledge, medical innovation, and international partnerships. It also positions Emirates Scholar as a leading centre for medical research and scientific excellence in the region. The upcoming EAMC 2025 will serve as an important platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and showcasing advancements in rehabilitation medicine and psychology.
The partnership promises to open doors for thousands of researchers and medical professionals, offering them the tools, guidance, and international collaborations needed to address some of the most pressing healthcare challenges worldwide. Experts believe that this will not only boost the UAE’s reputation in global medical research but also create new avenues for innovative healthcare solutions in the Arab world.
With this collaboration, the UAE is now better positioned to become a regional hub for scientific innovation, strengthening its presence in the international healthcare and research community. Researchers and students alike can look forward to opportunities for training, global exposure, and meaningful contributions to medical science, particularly in the areas of rehabilitation, modern medicine, and mental health care.
