Hatta Honey Festival Makes a Comeback, Celebrating Local Heritage

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In a celebration of local heritage and agriculture, Dubai Municipality has reintroduced the eagerly awaited Hatta Honey Festival as part of the #HattaWinter initiative. This event underscores the municipality's dedication to enhancing agri-tourism, promoting homegrown products, and fostering sustainable rural growth.

Taking place at Hatta Hall until December 31, 2025, the festival invites the public to join in freely. Visitors can connect with beekeepers, honey producers, and local entrepreneurs in a lively atmosphere that showcases the lush natural beauty and agricultural legacy of Hatta.

The festival is crucial in establishing Hatta as a premier eco- and agri-tourism hub. By merging production, education, testing, and retail under a single umbrella, it generates direct economic opportunities for Emirati growers, small enterprises, and family-owned businesses, bolstering Hatta's significance in Dubai's tourism and economic sectors.

This year's festival features over 50 booths showcasing honey producers and beekeepers indoors, along with 10 outdoor booths highlighting retail offerings and local businesses. Attendees can enjoy an outdoor workshop area, a traditional majlis, a cozy indoor lounge, cultural performances, activities for children, and four food trucks, providing a complete winter experience for families.

Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafee, CEO of the Environment, Health, and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the festival's role in promoting sustainable agri-tourism and empowering local producers through initiatives that blend economic growth with quality assurance and community involvement. He remarked that the event artfully combines education, heritage, and entertainment while bolstering the local economy and aligning with Dubai’s vision for sustainable agricultural tourism.

A standout feature this year is the involvement of the Dubai Central Laboratory, which will present a comprehensive laboratory platform for honey testing. This facility boasts advanced infrared devices capable of performing critical quality and safety assessments in less than a minute. The testing framework includes up to 512 accredited tests, enhancing consumer confidence and upholding rigorous food safety standards.

In alignment with Dubai Municipality's efforts towards digital transformation, the laboratory will showcase a state-of-the-art sample reception system utilizing smart technologies. The robot-driven system will autonomously receive honey samples, ensuring precision, reliability, and full compliance with safety protocols.

Alongside the festival, Dubai Municipality will launch an innovative initiative aimed at cataloging the quality of Emirati honey. This project aims to establish a laboratory fingerprint and digital identity for local honey, facilitating verification of its type, origin, and quality through advanced scientific methods. A collaboration agreement with the Hatta Traders Council will be signed to enact this pioneering initiative in the UAE.

Far beyond mere trade and technology, the Hatta Honey Festival serves as a vibrant winter destination focused on community engagement. With interactive workshops, educational presentations, and live performances throughout the venue, the festival fosters quality of life, encourages entrepreneurial spirit, and bolsters community participation.

This event forms part of a comprehensive development plan for the Hatta region, aimed at diversifying the local economy, empowering Emirati business owners, and creating sustainable investment avenues in agriculture and small industries, all while ensuring high standards of product integrity and safety.
