Dubai's government has announced a substantial Dhs1 billion economic support initiative designed to safeguard jobs and assist businesses throughout the emirate. Approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this move is part of a broader strategy to enhance economic stability.
The support package encompasses various financial relief measures aimed at alleviating the pressure on both businesses and individuals over the next three to six months. Notably, there is an emphasis on the hospitality industry, where fees related to hotels, including charges on room bookings and dining services, have been temporarily postponed.
Moreover, the Tourism Dirham fee — a standard charge for hotel guests — has been suspended for three months, reducing costs for businesses and travelers alike. Additionally, plans to simplify the issuance and renewal processes for residency permits have been announced, which is expected to benefit both workers and employers.
Beyond the hospitality sector, various business-related fees across different industries have also seen deferrals, including those for license amendments, service charges, and waste management. The government has extended customs data grace periods, increasing from 30 to 90 days to enhance trade operations.
Officials have indicated that this initiative is part of a more extensive strategy focused on boosting employment, enhancing living standards, and ensuring sustainable economic resilience. Additional programs, aimed at workforce development and improved living conditions for employees, are also being introduced to foster long-term growth in Dubai.
