DP World and Al Dahra Holding have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to investigate strategic avenues to enhance food security and bolster agri-logistics capabilities within the GCC and abroad.
This collaboration aligns with regional ambitions to fortify and improve food supply chains in the Gulf. Given that the UAE relies on imports for about 85–90% of its food needs, this agreement underscores the urgent requirement for trusted and effective supply chain networks to ensure sustainable food security.
The agreement will see the two entities working closely on tailored supply chain solutions that address the movement, storage, and distribution of food and agricultural essentials. This venture will merge DP World’s extensive logistics expertise with Al Dahra’s knowledge in agricultural production, sourcing, and procurement.
The partnership aims to develop specialized logistics and port facilities for the import, storage, processing, and distribution of food throughout the GCC, with a focus on enhancing cold chain and warehousing capabilities for perishables such as fresh produce, grains, and processed products.
Moreover, DP World and Al Dahra are set to evaluate prospects for joint investments in logistics facilities, operations within free zones, and agri-food processing centers, particularly in Abu Dhabi and other key GCC territories.
The collaboration will also aim to reinforce and optimize global sourcing routes across regions like Africa, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas to enhance the efficacy and adaptability of food supply chains.
Both organizations will investigate technology-centered logistics solutions, such as digital platforms, traceability systems, and intelligent logistics tools, all designed to boost operational efficiency and transparency in supply chains.
The partnership further advocates for improved collaboration on food safety protocols, customs processes, and regulatory frameworks to streamline trade across borders.
Yuvraj Narayan, Group CEO of DP World, emphasized that this collaboration demonstrates the company’s commitment to establishing robust and sustainable global supply networks while advancing food security and economic development.
Arnoud van den Berg, Group CEO of Al Dahra, commented that the collaboration will enhance the company’s capacity to procure, transport, and distribute vital food items more efficiently within the GCC and global markets.
