Celina Jaitly remains hopeful as her brother, Maj. (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, continues his detention in the UAE, now reaching 15 months. A recent ruling by the Delhi High Court has renewed her family's hopes for communication after an extended silence.
On Thursday, the Court mandated the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to notify Retired Major Vikrant about his sister's desire to connect with him during the next consular visit. The MEA was instructed to facilitate this communication, potentially through the UAE's TAMM app or another suitable platform.
In a poignant Instagram post, the actor expressed her distress over the prolonged absence of contact, stating, “Ma & Pa… I am doing my best! I haven’t been able to speak to Vikrant in 15 months. Today, hope was documented… Thank you Universe!!” following the court proceedings.
Celina highlighted that her petition for access to her brother and legal counsel was addressed by the High Court, where the MEA provided a status report and appointed a nodal officer for coordination. Though contact has not yet been established, the Additional Solicitor General assured efforts would be made to ensure communication.
The court recognized the family's distress and their enduring legacy of service in the Indian Armed Forces. The next hearing has been scheduled for December 23.
Requesting privacy during this challenging phase, Celina stated she would refrain from media inquiries and directed all questions to her legal representative, Raghav Kacker of Kacker & Co.
It has been reported that Maj. (Retd.) Vikrant Jaitly has resided in the UAE since 2016, working with the MATITI Group, which specializes in trading, consultancy, and risk management services. His detention, which began in September 2024, is reportedly associated with national security concerns flagged by UAE authorities.
