Tragic Bus Accident Claims Seven Lives in Yen Bai, Vietnam

Post by : Mina Rahman

In a devastating incident on Saturday, a bus carrying 19 passengers flipped over on a treacherous mountainous road in Yen Bai province, Vietnam, resulting in at least seven deaths. The 29-seat bus, which was transporting charity group members, lost control while descending, ultimately flipping over, according to officials.

This tragic event took place on a narrow, steep road known for its hazardous conditions. Responders were quick to arrive at the crash site following early morning reports of the incident. By 10:30 a.m. local time, rescue teams successfully pulled 10 survivors from the wreckage. However, many passengers remained trapped inside the crushed bus, leading to the use of heavy machinery to extract them.

Hoang Anh Tuan, the chairman of Phinh Ho commune where the accident happened, indicated that preliminary investigations point to brake failure as the likely cause of the crash during the descent. “It appears the driver lost control due to the failing brakes on the steep incline,” Tuan remarked.

Emergency responders, including local police, military forces, medical professionals, and volunteers, put in relentless efforts throughout the morning to assist the victims and clear the area. Medical teams promptly began treating the injured survivors, some of whom were in critical condition.

An official investigation has been initiated to determine the specific cause of the tragedy. As of this update, queries directed at local authorities for further details have not yet yielded responses.

The accident has left the local community in shock and raised urgent concerns regarding road safety on the mountainous routes commonly traversed by passenger vehicles in the area.
