Oman Hosts Third Asian Universities Arabic Debate

The third Asian Universities Debate Championship in Arabic began at the Arab Open University in A’Seeb, Oman. The event showcases Oman’s growing importance as a center for education, youth empowerment, and dialogue. The opening ceremony took place under the patronage of Mohammed Said Al Balushi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information, in the presence of Basil Ahmed Al Rowas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth Affairs.

The championship is jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Oman Debate Center, and the Qatar Debate Center. Together, these organizations aim to encourage constructive dialogue and strengthen the use of the Arabic language in international academic spaces. The event promotes logical reasoning, respect, and collaboration among university students from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

This year’s edition brings together 40 educational institutions representing 18 Asian countries. A total of 145 participants are taking part in the championship, engaging in lively discussions and debates. The diversity of participants reflects Asia’s cultural richness and highlights the role of debate in building understanding across nations.

The debates serve as a platform for students to share ideas on important social, cultural, and environmental issues. Participants practice expressing their opinions clearly and respectfully, while learning to listen and respond thoughtfully to opposing views. These experiences help them build vital life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and public speaking.

Hosting this event for the second consecutive year demonstrates Oman’s growing success in organizing international youth initiatives. The championship highlights Oman’s commitment to education, culture, and empowering young minds. By providing opportunities for students to engage in meaningful discussions, Oman continues to inspire youth leadership and innovation across the region.

One of the main goals of the championship is to strengthen the Arabic language as a tool for intellectual and cultural dialogue. By debating in Arabic, participants help preserve and modernize the language, proving that it remains a powerful means of global communication. The event also promotes the idea that Arabic can connect people from different countries through shared values and mutual respect.

The collaboration between the Oman Debate Center and Qatar Debate Center shows the commitment of Arab nations to advance education through cooperation. As the championship continues until November 1, participants are expected to explore complex global issues while practicing empathy and respect. Through this initiative, Oman reaffirms its belief that dialogue, learning, and cooperation are the foundations of a peaceful and progressive future.
