Announced by the Department of Community Development (DCD), the inaugural Abu Dhabi Excellence Award for People of Determination Inclusion – Damj, has achieved a remarkable total of 372 entries from governmental, private, and third-sector organisations within the emirate.

Launched under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Executive Council Chairman, the award aims to establish Abu Dhabi as a global frontrunner in inclusive development through promoting recognized standards, innovative programs, and inclusive policies.

Participation Categories

The submissions were categorized into three significant areas:

  • Inclusive Services

  • Inclusive Employment

  • Accessibility (Both Physical and Digital)

The impressive participation level in this initial edition illustrates how inclusion has become a fundamental organisational value within Abu Dhabi. It also underscores the advancements facilitated by the Abu Dhabi Strategy for People of Determination, aimed at nurturing an inclusive environment and ensuring equality in opportunities.

Enhancing Quality of Life and Empowerment

The Damj Award is a significant extension of these initiatives, acknowledging institutional cooperation and promoting projects that improve the quality of life for People of Determination and their families. It aims to reinforce their empowerment and active engagement in all social, economic, and community spheres.

Official Remarks

Her Excellency Dr. Layla Al Hyas, Executive Director of the Family and Child Welfare Sector at DCD, remarked on the strong reception, stating:
“The substantial number of submissions for the first Damj Award underscores Abu Dhabi’s growing consciousness and unwavering commitment to the inclusion and empowerment of People of Determination.”

She attributed this success to the visionary leadership of the UAE and the collaborative efforts of various Abu Dhabi entities to enhance inclusion in services, employment, and community involvement.

Promoting Awareness Across All Sectors

Dr. Al Hyas commended the Damj Award team for their awareness workshops and subsequent initiatives, which have been essential in informing organisations about submission guidelines and participation parameters throughout all sectors.

Paving the Way for an Inclusive Future

The high engagement level further solidifies Abu Dhabi’s role as a leading inclusive city, dedicated to empowering People of Determination and integrating inclusion as a core value across various societal sectors.
