Bollywood performer Yami Gautam, recognised for roles in Article 370, A Thursday and Bala, says the absence of a Best Actress trophy at top ceremonies no longer weighs on her. Despite several nominations at events such as Filmfare and IIFA, she reports that winning awards is no longer the benchmark for her work.
Reflecting on her mindset, Yami cited lessons from the Bhagavad Gita about detachment. She explained that stepping back from the urge for external approval has brought her a sense of calm: if one can let go of the fear of losing or the need for validation, their work becomes freer.
Since debuting with the 2013 hit Vicky Donor, Yami has steadily chosen roles that emphasise craft over conventional glamour. Her filmography, she says, leans toward parts that challenge norms and prioritise substance.
For her, the highest recognition now comes from viewers and filmmakers who place faith in her abilities. She emphasised that audience appreciation and the willingness of directors and producers to back her projects feel more meaningful than formal accolades.
Her next release is Haq, a courtroom drama drawing on the legacy of the Shah Bano case. Co-starring Emraan Hashmi, the film follows a Muslim woman’s fight for maintenance after divorce and is set to hit screens on November 7, drawing attention for its topical subject and performances.
