The World Free Zones Organization (World FZO), located in Dubai, has declared that the 12th edition of its annual World Congress is set for May 12 to 14, 2026, in Panama City. This significant event is anticipated to attract upwards of 1,500 leaders, including policymakers and executives from global free zones.
An official inauguration will be conducted by Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino, alongside key figures such as Bernardo Arévalo de León and Luis Abinader. More than 20 ministers and high-ranking government officials are expected to join, along with representatives from prominent international institutions.
Notable global leaders attending include Gerd Müller from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Wamkele Mene of the African Continental Free Trade Area, Pedro Manuel Moreno from the UN Trade and Development, Umberto de Pretto of the International Road Union, and Gilbert F. Houngbo from the International Labour Organization.
The Congress aims to address the theme, “Free Zones in the new global operating model: Challenges and Opportunities.” The discussions will shed light on how economic zones can propel global trade, investment, and sustainable growth, concentrating on digital transformation, innovation, and sustainability.
Organized in collaboration with the Panamanian government, this event underscores the nation’s strategic position as a trade and logistics nexus in the Americas.
Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Chairman of World FZO, highlighted the organization's evolution into a pivotal global platform for economic zones since its foundation in Dubai. He emphasized that the Congress is crucial in influencing global trade strategies and fostering sustainable economic development.
He also pointed out that innovation, digital evolution, and collaboration are essential for increasing the competitiveness of free zones. The Congress is poised to serve as a venue for policy dialogue, knowledge exchange, and partnership cultivation.
The agenda includes ministerial roundtables, leadership sessions, and panel discussions focused on regional cooperation, investment strategies, and green industrial development. Special segments will delve into advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, smart infrastructure, and digital trading systems.
Additionally, initiatives such as leadership programs, investor meetings, and networking opportunities will be set up to foster collaboration and investment.
The World Free Zones Organization unites free zones, special economic zones, and industrial parks alongside government and business leaders to promote global trade, investment, and innovation, while advocating sustainable economic growth.
