Pakistan has achieved an important space milestone with the successful launch of its PRSC-EO2 Earth observation satellite aboard China’s Smart Dragon-3 rocket. The mission highlights growing space cooperation between the two countries and strengthens Pakistan’s satellite monitoring and imaging capabilities.
The satellite was sent into orbit through a commercial launch mission designed to support Earth observation and remote sensing needs. Officials said the new satellite will help improve mapping, environmental monitoring, disaster assessment, agricultural planning, and urban development tracking. High-resolution imaging from space is considered a valuable tool for both civilian planning and scientific research.
The project was developed under the supervision of SUPARCO, Pakistan’s national space agency. According to agency representatives, PRSC-EO2 is designed to deliver more accurate and frequent imaging data compared to some earlier systems. This will allow faster response during floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters, while also supporting long-term infrastructure and land-use planning.
The Smart Dragon-3 rocket is part of China’s newer generation of commercial launch vehicles. It is built to carry small and medium satellites into orbit at lower cost and with flexible launch options. Space analysts say such rockets are becoming increasingly important as more countries and private operators deploy compact satellites for communication and observation.
Experts note that Earth observation satellites play a key role in modern governance and economic planning. They are used to monitor crop health, water resources, deforestation, coastal change, and weather patterns. With PRSC-EO2 in orbit, Pakistan is expected to expand its independent data collection capacity rather than relying only on foreign satellite feeds.
The launch also reflects broader regional cooperation in space technology, where partnerships help reduce cost and speed up mission timelines. Officials involved in the mission described the launch as smooth and successful, with the satellite entering its planned orbit and beginning early operational checks.
