In New York, during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who serves as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, held an important meeting with Jeremiah Maenele, the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands.
The meeting highlighted the growing friendship between the UAE and the Solomon Islands. Both leaders spoke about how their countries could work more closely together in the coming years. Their talks mainly focused on cooperation that can bring long-term benefits, economic growth, and opportunities for both nations.
Sheikh Abdullah expressed that the UAE is very keen on building stronger relations with the Solomon Islands. He stressed that both countries should take advantage of opportunities that can support their development goals. The UAE, he said, sees the Solomon Islands as a partner with whom it can share progress in areas such as trade, investment, climate action, education, and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Maenele welcomed this vision and shared his commitment to strengthening ties with the UAE. He pointed out that the Solomon Islands values its partnership with the UAE and looks forward to developing cooperation that supports the prosperity of both countries.
The leaders also discussed key issues that were part of the agenda of the UN General Assembly’s 80th session. These included global peace, economic challenges, climate change, and international partnerships. Both sides agreed that their cooperation should not only help their people but also contribute to wider international goals.
This meeting reflects the UAE’s broader foreign policy approach, which is focused on building bridges with countries across different regions, even small island nations like the Solomon Islands. The UAE aims to be a global partner that supports development, invests in new opportunities, and promotes stability.
Also present at the meeting was Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Minister of State, who attended the talks to support discussions on potential future projects and agreements.
This dialogue between Sheikh Abdullah and Prime Minister Maenele shows how the UAE continues to expand its diplomatic relationships across continents. It highlights the importance of small island states in global discussions and emphasizes the UAE’s role as a country that is ready to support sustainable growth worldwide.
By strengthening ties with the Solomon Islands, the UAE also opens doors to new partnerships in the Pacific region. This is significant because small island countries often face unique challenges such as climate risks, limited resources, and economic dependence on global trade. Through cooperation, the UAE can share its experience in innovation, renewable energy, infrastructure development, and investment strategies that could help the Solomon Islands grow stronger.
The meeting in New York is part of the UAE’s active participation in the United Nations, where it continues to present itself as a reliable partner for countries of all sizes. For the Solomon Islands, this is also a step forward in engaging with a country like the UAE, which has resources, experience, and influence on the international stage.
Both leaders agreed that their nations should work on practical steps to build on this dialogue. This could include setting up joint committees, exploring trade and tourism opportunities, or even educational exchanges that benefit young people from both countries.
