UAE Expands Nestlé Baby Formula Recall Due to Bacterial Contamination

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

The UAE has taken action by expanding its recall of a Nestlé baby formula, S26 AR GOLD, as part of a precautionary measure due to potential bacterial contamination.

The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) confirmed that this product should only be used under medical guidance. The recall includes specific batches, numbering 5185080661, 5271080661, and 5125080661.

The withdrawal was prompted by the detection of Bacillus cereus in a production input, a bacterium known to generate the cereulide toxin, which may result in foodborne illnesses characterized by nausea, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort.

In light of this situation, EDE has secured all affected batches in distributor warehouses and is actively working on ensuring the removal of these products from both online and offline retail platforms.

Nestlé has responded by providing digital verification tools, aiming to assist consumers in the UAE in checking batch numbers and processing refund or replacement requests as necessary.

Earlier initiatives by EDE included the recall of various other Nestlé baby formulas such as NAN Comfort 1, NAN OPTIPRO 1, and S-26 Ultima 1, 2, and 3, among others.

This recent recall is part of a broader quality assurance effort by UAE authorities on Nestlé infant formula products to safeguard consumer health.
