President Donald Trump delivered a significant warning to Iran on Friday, stating that the nation is in dire conditions as widespread protests continue to erupt in various cities.
During a press briefing, Trump noted that demonstrations have begun to spread to regions previously deemed stable just weeks prior. He expressed that this reflects the Iranian populace's vigorous opposition to their leaders.
“Iran’s facing major challenges,” Trump remarked, indicating that it appears as if the citizens are reclaiming control over areas previously thought to be beyond reach.
When queried about his warning to Iran's authorities, Trump emphasized the consequences of using force against protesters. He asserted that the US would take action if Iranian forces resort to violence against demonstrators.
“You better not start firing because we will retaliate,” he warned.
Trump further stated that if Iranian leadership begins to harm protesters, as he alleged has occurred historically, the US would intervene, though he reiterated that this wouldn't involve deploying ground troops.
“This doesn’t mean boots on the ground,” Trump clarified, “but it suggests hitting back very hard where it counts.”
These comments arise in the context of ongoing unrest in Iran, where protests challenge the existing government and garner international scrutiny.
