Outspoken and direct, Sunita Ahuja — wife of veteran actor Govinda — has publicly criticised the expensive religious ceremonies he is reportedly undertaking and the people who encourage them. She lamented that elaborate pujas, often arranged by their family priest, carry hefty price tags yet deliver little tangible benefit.
Sunita argued that genuine faith is expressed through personal conduct and acts of charity rather than lavish rituals. She said she prefers to give directly to those in need, viewing such efforts as more effective for accruing good karma. She also warned that some individuals in Govinda’s circle, including self-styled writers, lack sincerity and creative integrity.
On Govinda’s professional prospects, Sunita stated he intends to back three films as a producer but is hamstrung by bad counsel and unreliable partners. She additionally voiced concern about his wellbeing, suggesting he should prioritise physical fitness and skin care.
Sunita claimed that several people close to Govinda intentionally speak against her, fuelling friction in their marriage. The couple, married since 1987, have recently been the subject of separation rumours, she noted.
Professionally, Govinda has been largely absent from mainstream cinema; his most recent film, Rangeela Raja (2019), failed to make an impact at the box office.
