Jangmi Storm Strikes Japan, Leaving Thousands Without Power

Post by : Shakul

Tropical Storm Jangmi has unleashed severe winds and heavy rainfall across Japan, leading to significant disruptions in transportation and daily life.

Positioned around 150 kilometres south of Tokyo, the storm is moving northeast with ferocious winds. Meteorological authorities have alerted residents along the Pacific coast to remain vigilant, advising extreme caution.

Nearly 60,000 homes are experiencing power outages as the storm wreaks havoc on electrical systems. Reports of flooding, landslides, and downed trees have also emerged from several prefectures.

At least 15 injuries have been reported, although most are considered minor. Emergency services are actively addressing the aftermath and supporting residents in high-risk areas.

Evacuation notices are in effect for hundreds of thousands in regions including central, eastern, and southwestern Japan. Authorities are urging individuals to seek safer locations when needed and to avoid unnecessary travel.

Transport systems are severely disrupted, with almost 900 flight cancellations affecting tens of thousands of travelers, and train services, including bullet trains, are facing delays and temporary halts for safety reasons.

Several major car manufacturers have paused operations at various facilities as a precaution, although they plan to resume partial operations based on weather developments.

Officials are closely monitoring the storm's progression, alerting the public that heavy rains and robust winds may persist until conditions improve.
