Family, colleagues and well-wishers assembled on Monday at a prayer meeting in Juhu, Mumbai, to honour the memory of veteran actor Satish Shah. The gathering combined personal reminiscences, musical homages and expressions of condolence.
At one notable moment, playback singer Sonu Nigam performed "Tere Mere Sapne" from Guide, said to be Shah's favourite song, and softly invited Madhu Shah — the actor's wife, who is reportedly living with Alzheimer’s — to join him in the melody.
Video footage from the meeting captures Sonu kneeling beside Madhu, taking her hand and encouraging her to hum the tune; the intimate exchange visibly affected those present.
Veteran actor Aanjjan Srivastav posted the clip on social media, describing the gesture as "beautiful" and noting that it made the memorial a heartfelt celebration of Satish Shah's life.
JD Majethia, creator of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, referred to the scene as a "divine moment," saying it echoed Shah's deep affinity for music.
Internet Reactions
The clip circulated widely online, prompting a stream of reactions from fans and fellow artists who said they were moved by the tender interaction.
One commenter wrote, "This brought tears to my eyes. Sonu ji’s connection with Madhu ji through that song was powerful."
Another remarked, "Madhu ji's last line — ‘Hum sang rahege’ — was heartbreaking. Stay strong, Madhu ji."
Many praised Sonu Nigam for his compassion, calling the tribute one of the most dignified and touching farewells they had witnessed.
Satish Shah’s Passing
The actor, aged 74, collapsed at his Mumbai residence during lunch on Saturday and was taken to hospital, where doctors were unable to revive him.
Shah had undergone a kidney transplant in recent months and had been managing ongoing health issues. His funeral was held in Mumbai the following day.
A prominent figure in Indian film and television, Satish Shah was best known for his roles in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, as well as appearances in films including Kal Ho Naa Ho, Main Hoon Na, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Hum Aapke Hain Koun!.
Colleagues and audiences remember him for his comic timing, warmth and a distinguished body of work that left a lasting mark on popular culture.
