Shilpa Shirodkar calls Mahesh Babu a 'kind soul' while promoting Jatadhara

Post by : Mina Rahman

Shilpa Shirodkar, who has returned to the big screen with the mythological horror project Jatadhara, has resumed public promotion after a lengthy hiatus from mainstream films. The actor, sharing screen space with Sudheer Babu and Sonakshi Sinha, spoke during promotional rounds about her close family connection to Telugu star Mahesh Babu — he is married to her sister, former Miss India Namrata Shirodkar.

In a conversation with host Prema, Shilpa described Mahesh as among the kindest people she has encountered, praising his absence of vindictiveness and apparent lack of envy. She noted her admiration extends beyond his on-screen work to his personal conduct, adding that he routinely endorses and applauds others' projects. Asked about a possible on-screen pairing with him, she said she had not pursued the idea and quipped that the prospect would depend on Jatadhara’s reception.

Shirodkar first rose to prominence in Hindi cinema during the 1990s with roles in films such as Hum (1991) and Khuda Gawah (1992). After Gaja Gamini (2000) she stepped back to focus on family life following her marriage to Aparesh Ranjit, later re-emerging through television series including Ek Mutthi Aasmaan and Silsila Pyaar Ka. She returned to films with Guns of Banaras in 2020, and Jatadhara marks a new-phase exploration of mythological horror in her career.

Mahesh Babu, who most recently appeared in the 2024 release Guntur Kaaram, is currently collaborating with director S.S. Rajamouli on a large-scale action-adventure provisionally known as SSMB 29. That production has drawn international attention with a cast that reportedly includes Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Mahesh and Namrata, married for over twenty years, are parents to Gautam and Sitara, both of whom have expressed an interest in acting.
