Sharjah Ruler Directs Progress at Kalba University Board Meeting

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Supreme Council Member, presided over a crucial meeting of the University of Kalba's Board of Trustees on Monday at the university’s headquarters.

Acknowledgment of Achievements

During the session, the Ruler commended the impressive advancements achieved by the University of Kalba in recent years, highlighting the institution's accomplishments, continuous evolution, and expanding collaborations. He expressed gratitude towards the leadership, board members, and various committees for their commitment to driving institutional improvements.

Emphasis on Specialization

The Ruler elaborated on the emirate's educational landscape, originating with the formation of the University of Sharjah and the American University of Sharjah. He stressed the necessity of establishing specialized educational institutions in diverse locales, including sports sciences in Kalba, marine sciences in Khorfakkan, and agricultural studies in Al Dhaid, aimed at serving local communities.

Approval of a Strategic Plan

The Board ratified a comprehensive five-year strategic plan for the University of Kalba covering 2026–2031. The initiative targets:

  • Enhancing sustainability and institutional performance

  • Advancing research and innovation

  • Improving student job readiness

  • Broadening global partnerships

  • Facilitating digital transformation and lifelong learning

  • Encouraging community involvement and well-being

New Leadership Roles

The Board appointed Dr George Nassis as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, along with two new deans leading the Colleges of Business Administration and Computing and Intelligent Systems.

Introduction of New Academic Programs

A new biology program was sanctioned, concentrating on the examination of living organisms. The Board also reviewed accreditation requests for several fresh Bachelor of Science offerings, including:

  • Sports Rehabilitation

  • Sports Nutrition and Health Wellness

  • Esports and Interactive Technologies

  • Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

Additionally, two new specialized pathways were introduced within the Physical Education and Sports Sciences curriculum:

  • Physical Education

  • Sports Coaching and Management

Review of Accomplishments

Chancellor Dr Najwa Al Hosani summarized significant achievements from the recent academic cycle, which included advancements in education, research, community service, and digital progress.

The Board reviewed committee reports encompassing academic, financial, auditing, and development aspects, approving several initiatives to ensure the university’s progressive trajectory.

Student Exhibition Highlights

Accompanying the meeting, His Highness toured a student exhibition that showcased notable achievements in sports, literature, research, and academia, including student participation in an international sports science conference held in Switzerland.

The event saw participation from key officials, academic leaders, and delegates from various governmental and educational organizations.
