Sharjah Ruler Commemorates Sheikh Abdul Basit and Unveils New Quran App

On Thursday, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, welcomed the sons of the esteemed late Sheikh Abdul Basit Mohammed Abdul Samad at the Holy Quran Academy. During this meeting, he introduced the innovative smart Quran application, 'Al Moeen'.

This initiative underscores Sharjah’s dedication to preserving the Quran's heritage while paying tribute to exemplary figures devoted to its teaching and recitation.

Honoring a Master Reciter

His Highness warmly greeted the guests, expressing the pride felt for Sheikh Abdul Basit, one of the most distinguished Quran reciters globally. He acknowledged the late Sheikh's profound influence across generations of Muslims while emphasizing his exceptional skills in the seven Quranic readings, which have secured his legacy in Quranic history.

The Ruler of Sharjah remarked that Sheikh Abdul Basit’s melodious voice and dedication to the Holy Quran have left an enduring impression worldwide, making his legacy deeply revered.

Sharjah's Commitment to Quranic Education

His Highness reiterated Sharjah’s unwavering support for initiatives that promote the Holy Quran and its teachings. He highlighted the necessity of employing modern technology to safeguard Quranic heritage and ensure its transmission to future generations, reinforcing Islamic values while adapting to contemporary trends.

He added that such contributions reflect Sharjah's cultural mission, which prioritizes knowledge, faith, and heritage in its development agenda.

Expressions of Gratitude from Sheikh Abdul Basit's Family

The family of the late Sheikh expressed heartfelt thanks to His Highness for the gracious welcome and for celebrating the legacy of esteemed Quran reciters. They acknowledged Sharjah's pivotal role in promoting the Holy Quran and its scholars.

Visit to the Museum of Renowned Reciters

His Highness subsequently toured the Museum of Renowned Reciters at the Holy Quran Academy, inaugurating a section dedicated to the personal memorabilia of Sheikh Abdul Basit. This exhibit features a unique collection of photographs and artifacts chronicling the Sheikh's life alongside interactions with various scholars and prominent figures.

During the tour, he also watched a documentary focusing on pivotal milestones in the Sheikh's journey of Quranic recitation and his lifelong devotion to the Holy Quran.

Exhibition of Personal Artifacts

As part of the exhibition, His Highness received insights about valuable items, including copies of the Holy Quran, devices used for recording by the late Sheikh, personal handwritten letters, his Quranic credentials, and various medals bestowed upon him from numerous nations.

Exchange of Tokens of Appreciation

His Highness presented a certificate of appreciation to Sheikh Abdul Basit's sons, acknowledging their generous contribution of their father's rare items to the Museum. He praised their initiative, which will aid in preserving the Sheikh’s monumental legacy.

In reciprocation, the family gifted His Highness a commemorative item, expressing gratitude for his persistent efforts to honor the Holy Quran and its distinguished figures.

Introduction of 'Al Moeen' Smart Quran App

During the event, His Highness officially launched the 'Al Moeen' smart application using a tablet device. This application serves as a comprehensive digital Quran platform aimed at assisting users in reciting and memorizing the Holy Quran through an immersive approach.

Enhanced Features for Learning

A presentation highlighted the app's innovative features, including real-time recitation tracking, error detection in pronunciation, and immediate feedback. The app's smart memorization and review modes create customized learning plans tailored to individual users. It follows the Ottoman page layout to maintain accuracy with traditional texts.

Global Accessibility and Multilingual Options

The application allows for smart searches by text and voice while offering support in multiple languages, including Arabic, English, French, and Urdu. It is set to be available globally through major app platforms.

The event was graced by His Excellency Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs; Dr Khalifa Musabah Al Tuneiji, Chairman of the Holy Quran Academy; Dr Issa Saif bin Hanzal, Chairman of the Islamic Affairs Department; and Dr Ali Ibrahim Al Marri, Chairman of Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre, along with distinguished officials.
