The Selangor state administration is deliberating a gradual rise in rental charges for the People’s Housing Project (PPR) as part of its initiative to enhance maintenance and upgrade amenities within public housing areas.
Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, the chairman of the State Housing and Culture Committee, stated that this proposal follows the management handover of PPR housing to Perumahan dan Hartanah Selangor Sdn Bhd, under an agreement with the Housing and Local Government Ministry.
Borhan noted that while the current rental fee of RM124 is under review, discussions with residents are ongoing, and the final rate has yet to be determined.
He pointed out the urgent need for maintenance in many PPR buildings, including repainting, lift repairs, cleaning of water tanks, and enhancements to shared facilities, which serve thousands of residents.
The state government has also allocated RM2.3 million from the Housing and Local Government Ministry to bolster maintenance and operational management within the housing complex for a year.
New management strategies will include stricter safety measures such as access card systems and control of parking to enhance security and order in residential areas.
Additionally, Selangor authorities are probing allegations of tenants unlawfully subletting their units to third parties, which they consider unfair to other eligible residents awaiting housing assistance.
Borhan further announced that enforcement actions against illegal pig farming in Tanjung Sepat would commence from July 1, following a six-month grace period granted to operators.
