Post by : Mara Rahim

The Houston Rockets faced off against the Orlando Magic in a nail-biting game filled with intense competition. The contest culminated in overtime, resulting in a 117-113 victory for the Rockets. This exhilarating match showcased resilience, notable performances, and pivotal moments that shifted the game's momentum.

Kevin Durant emerged as the standout player, scoring a game-high 35 points and making crucial plays in the closing minutes. He assisted Amen Thompson for a key dunk with 51.8 seconds left in overtime and then sank a clutch 12-foot jumper with just 9.2 seconds remaining. His composed play instilled confidence in Houston as the game drew to a close.

Alperen Sengun also played a vital role in the win. He contributed significantly, delivering 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists, showcasing his versatility on both ends of the court. Other contributors included:

  • Amen Thompson with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

  • Reed Sheppard generating 16 points off the bench.

  • Steven Adams securing 13 rebounds.

  • Jabari Smith Jr. recording a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Rebounding proved to be a significant factor for the Rockets, dominating the boards with 60 rebounds compared to just 38 for the Magic, allowing them to remain competitive even in challenging moments.

The Orlando Magic put up a strong fight despite missing key players like Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs due to injuries. Franz Wagner led the charge for the Magic with 29 points, while Desmond Bane added 26 and Anthony Black contributed 18, particularly shining during the critical moments of the game.

As the game neared its conclusion, excitement surged. Kevin Durant's clutch three-pointer tied the score at 100-100, but Anthony Black swiftly followed with a dunk to give the Magic a brief lead. Despite the pressure, Sengun's last-second score sent the game to overtime, igniting the home crowd.

In the overtime period, the Rockets displayed a calm demeanor, bolstered by Durant's leadership. Key free throws from Reed Sheppard and Amen Thompson solidified the win, thwarting Orlando's attempts to rally back.

Initially, the Magic dominated, shooting over 54 percent in the first quarter and taking an early 14-point lead, bolstered by strong contributions from Wagner and Wendell Carter Jr. Their defensive prowess, including five blocks in the opening quarter, added to their initial success.

Despite falling behind, the Rockets' determination never wavered. They steadily clawed back in the second and third quarters, finding their stride by the fourth. The combination of Durant’s scoring ability, Sengun’s playmaking skills, and a solid rebounding effort ultimately led to their overtime triumph.

The Rockets’ 117-113 win was a testament to their teamwork and perseverance. With Durant’s dazzling performance and Sengun’s all-around contributions, they achieved a hard-fought victory at home, even against a resilient Magic team.
