Prime Video to Stream Kantara Chapter 1 Globally on October 31

Kantara Chapter 1 has emerged as a commercial phenomenon, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 with reported worldwide receipts of ₹813 crore within 25 days, surpassing Chhaava’s ₹807 crore. The film’s makers have noted the box-office response as evidence of the story’s wide cultural resonance.

Amazon Prime Video announced that Kantara Chapter 1 will arrive on its platform on October 31, less than a month after the theatrical premiere on October 2. The release will be available in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, and the feature is written, directed and led by Rishab Shetty, with Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram in key roles.

Prime Video’s social post promoted the date with a brief clip and the tagline inviting viewers to “witness the LEGENDary adventure of BERME” under the hashtag #KantaraALegendChapter1OnPrime. The teaser emphasised Rishab Shetty’s fierce portrayal of Berme and suggested the film’s intense emotional and visual palette.

The streaming announcement prompted mixed reactions online. Several viewers queried the absence of a Hindi version, arguing a Hindi release could broaden reach, while others expressed surprise at the short gap between theatrical and OTT availability — roughly 29 days.

Set against the backdrop of the Kadamba dynasty, Kantara Chapter 1 functions as a prequel to the 2022 film Kantara, delving into the origins and rituals surrounding Panjuluri Daiva, Guliga and Chavundi. Produced by Hombale Films, the film further examines the relationship between community, nature and belief.

Reflecting on the project, Rishab Shetty said the chapter is “deeply rooted in our soil” and emphasised that the film’s rituals and emotions are drawn from lived traditions. He has framed the film as a cinematic effort to preserve and project regional folklore and spiritual practice.

In a parallel release plan, an English-language theatrical version of Kantara Chapter 1 will also open worldwide on October 31. Industry observers expect the combined theatrical and streaming rollouts to extend the film’s international footprint and draw substantial streaming audiences once it debuts on Prime Video.
