The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW) of Thailand has announced essential directives for employers regarding overtime payments to security guards, set to take effect on April 24, 2026.
Initially published in the Royal Gazette in April 2025, this regulation aims to enhance labor protection, particularly for security personnel and those in similar roles.
As per the Director-General, this law is intended to secure fair remuneration that aligns with prevailing economic conditions and the specific job tasks undertaken.
Employers are required to compensate overtime at prescribed rates: at least 1.25 times the regular hourly wage on standard workdays and at least 2.5 times on holidays.
This regulation extends its coverage to workers not earning a monthly salary, ensuring equitable pay standards for all security-related work.
Employers and employees may consensually agree on work hours exceeding eight per day; however, overall hours cannot surpass 48 weekly as mandated by law.
Any extra hours worked beyond the daily eight must be compensated at overtime rates, guaranteeing adequate pay for all additional input.
The DLPW has urged employees to report non-compliance through provincial labor offices, their online platforms, or dedicated hotline services established by the department.
Enforcement of these new regulations is crucial to fostering better working conditions and ensuring fair treatment for security guards nationwide.
