Sudanese writer and humanitarian Osama Regaah reflects on the foundations that shaped his character as he introduces his new novel Transparent Ghost. Through this heartfelt narrative, he pays tribute to the parents whose quiet strength, humility, and disciplined values guided every step of his life.
Raised in a modest home in Port Sudan, Regaah learned early that true wealth lies in integrity, sincerity, patience, and contentment. His father, a man of honor and dignity, believed that sustenance comes through honest work and that a persons worth is earned by clean hands and a clear conscience. Each day, as he opened his small shop in the busy Port Sudan market, his gentle prayers brought calm and stability into the home, forming the moral foundation that shaped Osama Regaah and his siblings.
Despite having limited resources, the household was filled with joy, gratitude, and emotional richness. Through daily actions, not instructions, his father taught him to remain humble, appreciate the blessings of others, and face lifes challenges with grace.
His mother played an equally powerful role in shaping his spirit. She lived with quiet greatness, never complaining or speaking negatively about anyone. Guided by sincerity and unwavering faith, she showed her children that a pure heart is a form of abundance. Through her, they learned to love life for its meaning and to love people for the goodness it brings to the soul.
Whenever life becomes heavy, Regaah turns to the memories of his parents. Their voices, patience, and calmness continue to guide him. They lived simple lives yet carried a nobility that money could never buy. These memories later became the emotional heart of Transparent Ghost.
Some of Regaahs most cherished memories come from the three months each year he spent with his family in their ancestral village in Taybah al Khawad, Shendi. There, muddy paths, the scent of rain, and the warmth of relatives shaped his understanding of simplicity and generosity. The village had no mansions or cars, yet it offered something far more valuable serenity, belonging, and the purity of rural Sudanese life.
Today he recognizes that real wealth was not in gold or travel but in the upbringing that strengthened his faith, resolve, and conscience. These values continue to influence both his humanitarian initiatives and his writing.
Regaah reminds young people that humble beginnings are not a limitation but a foundation for strength. Scarcity teaches gratitude, struggle builds perseverance, and contentment shapes resilience. Success, he says, is not created by wealth but shaped by determination and blessed by inner peace.
He encourages the youth to believe in their abilities, walk confidently, and lead with kindness. These lessons from his parents remain at the center of his mission today.
Through Transparent Ghost and his ongoing humanitarian work, Osama Regaah continues to honor the legacy of two parents whose wisdom lives on in every chapter of his life and in every message he shares with the next generation.
