Meraas, under the umbrella of Dubai Holding Real Estate, has unveiled an ambitious expansion plan for Dubai Design District (d3), transforming it into a bustling waterfront community focused on creativity and modern living. This new strategy aims to create a harmonious environment where residents can live, work, and socialize in a meticulously designed space.
Nestled between Downtown Dubai and Dubai Creek, the updated district spans approximately 18 million square feet. The plan integrates residential complexes, cultural venues, retail spots, hospitality, and landscaped public zones, resulting in a balanced environment for both lifestyle and job opportunities. This initiative arises amid a growing demand for design-oriented waterfront living spaces that cater to both local and international buyers.
One of the standout features of the new design is the “Design Line,” a pedestrian-friendly pathway that traverses the heart of the district. This main thoroughfare encourages foot traffic and social gatherings, adorned with public art, creative installations, green pathways, and community areas. It serves as a unifying element, connecting various zones while establishing d3's reputation as a leading hub for design.
Emphasizing sustainability, the development aims for LEED Silver community certification, focusing on energy efficiency, eco-friendly transportation, and seamless integration with the natural environment. Visual connections to Dubai Creek and the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary are embedded in the design, enriching the urban landscape.
The revamped d3 will consist of five diverse areas, each showcasing its unique character. The canal-front section will boast modern residences and boutique hotels along a lively waterfront promenade. The urban core will merge living spaces with curated shopping and dining options, closely linked to d3’s existing creative enterprises. Another section is designated as the cultural hub, featuring performance venues and mid-rise residences around the d3 Bowl. A wellness area will include homes surrounded by parks, sports amenities, and mangrove-inspired landscaping. Lastly, an area devoted to creativity will house galleries, studios, and loft-like environments tailored for artists and designers.
This expansion builds on the strong interest already witnessed in the district. Recent launches, such as the swiftly sold-out Atelis waterfront tower and the favorable reception of The Edit—a three-tower residential project with design-focused homes—highlight the demand.
With this transformative masterplan, Dubai Design District is poised to become one of the city’s most unique waterfront locales, merging creative culture with everyday living and reinforcing Dubai’s standing as a global center for design and innovation.
