As of Thursday, Kuwait International Airport has reopened its airspace, concluding a suspension of flights initiated on February 28 due to ongoing regional tensions.
This decision was announced by Sheikh Eng. Hamoud Mubarak Hamoud Al-Sabah, Chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation. As reported by the Kuwait News Agency, the resumption follows careful collaboration with global authorities to ensure operations align with the highest standards of safety and security.
Kuwaiti authorities indicated that the return of air traffic will occur gradually, based on a phased strategy. Technical crews have already commenced repairs and maintenance on affected facilities and operational systems amidst the uptick in regional operations.
Sheikh Hamoud Al-Sabah emphasized the aviation sector's readiness to efficiently return to normal operations and expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its assistance in managing Kuwaiti flights via its airports during the temporary closure.
Additionally, he acknowledged the support from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and commended the collaborative regional efforts that facilitated the crisis management and expedited the reopening timeline.
This development signifies a vital advancement in restoring normal air travel in Kuwait after several weeks of interruptions.
