Khushi Kapoor begins Mom 2 production in Mumbai as set images circulate

Boney Kapoor’s younger daughter, Khushi Kapoor, has officially commenced work on Mom 2, the sequel to Sridevi’s acclaimed 2017 drama Mom. The original film earned Sridevi a posthumous National Film Award for Best Actress, placing considerable public and critical expectation on the follow-up.

In March, Boney Kapoor revealed he was developing a project with Khushi and hinted at a possible continuation of the Mom story. The suggestion drew mixed reactions online, with many users weighing whether Khushi could carry forward the legacy established by her mother.

Insiders say principal photography began after Diwali, and previously unseen photos from the set surfaced around Khushi’s 25th birthday. The images depict her in a relaxed sweatshirt, focused on her performance; veteran TV actor Karishma Tanna was also photographed in a traditional white salwar kameez on set.

Production sources indicate Mom 2 moved into full production in Mumbai last week, with the initial 10-day shooting block already completed. Reports describe Khushi’s part as central to the narrative, signalling that the sequel will pursue emotionally driven storylines in the vein of the first film. The crew describes filming as proceeding without major setbacks.

Girish Kohli has been appointed director of the sequel. Kohli, who contributed to the original film’s story and wrote its screenplay and dialogues, takes on full directorial duties for Mom 2. Boney Kapoor reportedly recommended Kohli because of his familiarity with the material and his recent directorial work on Sohum Shah’s Crazxy.

There is speculation that Boney Kapoor may time an official announcement to coincide with his birthday on November 11, when formal details and promotional material are expected to be released. Industry observers anticipate official confirmations and further publicity soon.

With Khushi’s screen debut, established performers such as Karishma Tanna in supporting roles, and the cultural weight of Sridevi’s performance in the original, Mom 2 is already drawing attention across Bollywood. The sequel is expected to continue exploring themes of family, justice and resilience with a similar emotional intensity.
