12 Tourists Feared Dead In Kenya Plane Crash Near Kwale Forest

Post by : Raina Nasser

A tragic Kenya plane crash occurred early Tuesday in the coastal region of Kwale, leaving 12 people feared dead, officials confirmed. The small aircraft, a Cessna Caravan, was en route to the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve when it went down in a hilly, forested area about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Diani airstrip.

According to Kwale County Commissioner Stephen Orinde, all those onboard were “foreign tourists,” though their nationalities have not yet been confirmed. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority stated that 12 people were onboard the aircraft, and an investigation has begun to determine the cause of the Kenya plane crash.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion moments after the plane took off. When they reached the crash site, they found the wreckage completely burned and human remains unrecognizable. “The aircraft crashed minutes after takeoff and burst into flames,” an official said, describing the devastating scene left behind.

The airline, Mombasa Air Safari, confirmed the incident and said it was cooperating with aviation authorities to assist with investigations. “We are working closely with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority to provide updates as soon as possible,” the airline said in a statement.

The Kenya plane crash has drawn widespread sorrow as families await confirmation of victims’ identities. Rescue teams and aviation investigators are combing through the wreckage for evidence to understand what caused the aircraft to lose control shortly after takeoff.

The Maasai Mara National Reserve, the flight’s destination, is one of Kenya’s most popular tourist attractions, famous for its annual wildebeest migration and breathtaking savannah landscape. The tragic Kenya plane crash serves as a grim reminder of the risks faced by those traveling to remote safari destinations.

Authorities have urged calm as they continue recovery operations. The investigation into the Kenya plane crash is ongoing, with officials expected to release more details in the coming days.
