Abu Dhabi: A strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been formalized between K2 and WeRide at UMEX 2026, aimed at the joint deployment of autonomous buses in Abu Dhabi. This initiative receives support from the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC) and the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).

The new alliance aligns with Abu Dhabi's vision for innovative mobility by enabling the practical implementation of autonomous public transport. It further solidifies the emirate's ambition to emerge as a global leader in intelligent and sustainable transportation solutions.

Waleed Alblooshi, Vice President of Strategy at K2, emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to pave the way for a future where autonomous technologies are integrated smoothly and sustainably. He noted that K2 will leverage local expertise, fleet management skills, and comprehensive experience in real-world mobility applications.

Ryan Zhan, Regional General Manager for Middle East and Africa at WeRide, stated that the MoU signifies a new growth chapter for the company in the region. He elaborated that the integration of WeRide's Level 4 autonomous driving technology with K2’s local insights will expedite the advancement of safer and smarter public transport across the UAE and the Middle East.

K2 boasts comprehensive experience in the autonomous mobility arena, with its subsidiaries engaging in pilot programs for robotaxis and last-mile delivery services over extensive distances.
