K-pop Artists Join Forces to Aid Hong Kong Fire Victims

Post by : Mina Rahman

The devastating apartment blaze in Hong Kong, responsible for the loss of at least 128 lives, has prompted a heartfelt response from K-pop stars and entertainment firms aiming to assist the victims.

Aespa announced on Weibo their commitment to donate 500,000 Hong Kong dollars to the Hong Kong Red Cross, expressing their sorrow over the tragic event.

Stray Kids have pledged a donation of 1 million Hong Kong dollars via World Vision Hong Kong, which is aimed at providing temporary housing and vital assistance for affected families and children. They shared their heavy hearts upon learning about the calamity.

In addition, SM Entertainment and JYP Entertainment contributed a combined total of 3 million Hong Kong dollars to facilitate emergency aid and recovery initiatives.

Other groups such as Riize, EXO-CBX, and KickFlip have also contributed 100,000 Hong Kong dollars each through World Vision Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, the MAMA Awards organizers in Hong Kong faced backlash from South Korea for choosing not to cancel the event following the devastating fire. While the red carpet segment was canceled, the main ceremony proceeded.

They expressed their condolences to the victims and incorporated a “Support Hong Kong” message along with a moment of silence during the event. Furthermore, they committed to donating 20 million Hong Kong dollars to the government's support initiative.
