India has expressed grave concern over Iran’s missile and drone assault on the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone in the UAE, which resulted in injuries to three Indian nationals.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) labeled this aggression as “unacceptable,” urging a cessation of attacks on innocent civilians and vital infrastructure. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated India's commitment to dialogue and diplomatic solutions for achieving stability in West Asia.
This attack surfaces amidst escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. UAE officials reported that Iran fired four cruise missiles toward the UAE; three were intercepted by air defense systems while the fourth landed in the sea.
Additionally, a drone attack ignited a fire in the Fujairah Oil Industrial Zone, an essential area for the UAE’s oil export operations. Emergency responders swiftly contained the fire. The three injured Indian nationals were transported to a medical facility and are currently in stable condition.
The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi confirmed ongoing communication with local authorities to ensure the affected individuals receive optimal medical care.
India has underscored the necessity for secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passageway for global shipping, reaffirming its readiness to aid in peaceful negotiations.
The UAE government strongly condemned the incident, viewing it as a serious threat to national security, and indicated its right to respond.
Fujairah is strategically vital as it enables the UAE to export oil through the Gulf of Oman, avoiding the Strait of Hormuz. This latest incident has heightened concerns about rising instability in the Gulf, particularly regarding energy and shipping security.
The atmosphere remains tense, with apprehensions concerning potential further escalations in the area.
