Nga Kor Ming Stresses Importance of Arts and Culture in Urban Development

Post by : Shakul

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has emphasized that successful modern cities require more than just robust infrastructure. He stated that the integration of arts, culture, and interpersonal connections is crucial for cultivating inclusive urban environments.

During a cultural gathering in Ipoh, Nga elaborated that, while ongoing investments in public infrastructure, affordable housing, and improved services are vital, genuine urban thriving must encompass more than just concrete and steel.

He pointed out that urban growth should not solely focus on towering skyscrapers or extensive highways; it should also prioritize the joy, identity, and sense of community among residents.

Nga warned that neglecting cultural and artistic activities could render even the most technically advanced cities as emotionally sterile places, leading to a sense of isolation among citizens.

He noted that arts and culture initiatives play an essential role in nurturing compassion, togetherness, and mutual understanding within Malaysia's diverse populace.

He particularly highlighted the power of music as a universal medium, transcending racial, religious, and geographical divides, and fostering unity and harmony.

Nga also challenged Malaysians to view diversity as an asset, explaining that it fuels creativity, resilience, and national advancement when communities unite.

These insights were shared as he officiated at the MADANI Philharmonic Musical Concert 2026: A Tune of Friendship and Unity in Harmony at the RTM Auditorium.

The event showcased performances by numerous orchestras, highlighting collaboration among various musicians as a celebration of cultural unity.

Nga concluded by calling on the public to denounce extremism and intolerance, reaffirming that shared values and unity are critical for Malaysia’s ongoing progress and international standing.
